Registration Requirement

100km participants

Registration for the 100 km race will be open on a first come first served basis to individuals who have completed a 100 km race in the past 3 years in under 28 hours or a 50 km race in under 10 hours.

50km participants

Registration for the 50 km race will be open on a first come, first served basis to individuals who have completed a 50 km race in under 14 hours or a 100 km race in under 28 hours in the past three years.

Pre-registration application

  1. Pre-registration starts from 10:00am on June 1, 2017 (Thursday) to 11:59pm on June 7, 2017 (Wednesday). A pre-registration link can be found on the bottom of this page.
  2. A non-refundable payment of HK$50 is required as a pre-registration application fee. This amount, after deduction of third party charges, will be donated to charity which appointed by The North Face 100 Hong Kong. Pre-registrations without payment will be neglected.
  3. For all pre-registered applicants, a lottery will be conducted by our organizer.
  4. Each applicant can apply once only and they will be identified by their Hong Kong Identity Card or passport number. Submission of more than one form by the same individual(s) is prohibited. If this occurs, all relevant applications will be rendered void.
  5. All pre-registered applicants (whether successful or not) will be notified on June 19, 2017 (Monday) about the lottery result of their application by email to their provided email address. Unsuccessful applicants will automatically be placed on a waiting list and will be notified if a spot becomes available.
  6. Successful applicants will need to complete the registration fee payment (HK$550/HK$1,200) before 11:59pm on June 23, 2017 (Friday) in order to confirm registration. If registration is not confirmed within this said period, the application will be considered forfeit.

* Charity bib registration will also commence at 10 AM on June 1, 2017 on a first come, first served basis until the quota is exhausted.  Once confirmed, charity registration cannot be cancelled.

Team Race (100km category only)

Participants may of their own volition form team of up to 5 members in the 100 km. A race participant can only join one team. Each team must have at least one female member.
Team members do not have to stay together or race together to qualify for the team prize.
Team rankings will be determined by the aggregate times of the three fastest team members (one of whom at least must be female) to finish the race.
Trophies will be awarded to the three teams with the fastest aggregate times.

General Rules

  1. Participants must be at least 18 years old on race day: Saturday 10 December 2016.
  2. Race participants may run walk or crawl, but may not make use of any motorized or wheeled vehicles during the race. Doing so could be grounds for disqualification.
  3. Race participants must make forward progress exclusively under their own power. Carrying, pulling or pushing by other racers or members of the public is prohibited and is grounds for disqualification.
  4. Racers must follow the marked course route the entire way and register at each aid station and timing checkpoint. Taking short cuts, such as cutting off the switchbacks on Tai Mo Shan Road, is grounds for disqualification.
  5. Racers wishing to make a protest must notify the race command center within 60 minutes of finishing the race. Protests will be consider by a three person committee consisting of the race director, a representative from The North Face and {an independent third party such as from HKYFG}. Decisions of the committee are final.
  6. Any littering on the course is strictly prohibited. Race participants are responsible for making sure that anything they throw out goes into a trash barrel. Littering on the course is grounds for disqualification.
  7. Your race number must be visible at all times on the outside of your clothing and on the front of your body. Do not cover over your race number with any backpack strap or article of clothing.
  8. If you withdraw from the event, you must sign the withdrawal form at the closest checkpoint (unless assisted from the course by First Aid crews).
  9. You must carry the Mandatory Gear at all times during the event. Random gear checks will be performed during the event. Any participant without the mandatory gear will not be able to proceed until they arrange for the missing item to be replaced. For the sake of fairness to other runners there will also be a penalty ranging from a time penalty to disqualification based on the severity of the breach.
  10. You must obey directions of marshals if you miss any time cut-offs.
  11. Use of trekking poles is permitted after checkpoint 1 only. During the first section of the race, those wishing to use poles must carry them in a backpack or waste pack with the points facing down.

Support/Outside Support

  1. Race participants may not receive outside support from the general public anywhere along the course other than at check points/aid stations.
  2. Race participants may use their own money that they carry themselves to purchase food and supplies from shops anywhere along the course, such as in Kuk Po, Luk Keng and Ng Tong Chai villages.
  3. Race participants may take as much food and beverage as needed from each aid station provided by the organizer. A full list of what will be provided at each aid station will be made available on the organizer’s website prior to the race. Race participants will not be allowed to take any bottles, cans or cups from the site and should plan on carrying and refilling their own hydration systems at the aid stations.
  4. All race participants will be able to give the race organizer one drop bag prior to the start of the race that will be available for the participant’s pick up at aid station number four. The organizer will not be responsible for bringing any racer’s gear back to the finish area. Any items left at checkpoints will be thrown out.
  5. The participant is responsible for the actions of their support crew. Support crews must comply with all instructions from event staff and officials. The participant may be penalised or disqualified for actions or breaches of the rules by their support crew.
  6. Support crews must not eat the provided food at checkpoints. The food is for the competitors only.
  7. Outside assistance is only permitted at the checkpoints.
  8. Support crews are not permitted to run with or pace runners.
  9. The event organizers are not responsible for the safety or whereabouts of support crew.

Mandatory equipment and equipment checks

  • Water resistant jacket with hood (not disposable)
  • Mobile phone (with HK reception)
  • 2 Lights (one can be a light on a phone, but the other must be a stand alone torch or head lamp)
  • Whistle
  • Race Bib
  • Personal cup or tumbler
  • Emergency contact card (provided by race organizer)

Recommended equipment

  • Warm cap or hat
  • Extra clothing/shoes
  • Extra pair of socks
  • Sunglasses
  • Sun block or Sun Screen
  • Trekking poles
  • Adhesive elastic band for making a bandage or a strapping
  • Replacement Headlamps / torches batteries
  • Some cash/ Octopus Card
  • Emergency blanket or equivalent
  • At least 0.5 liters of water or sports drink(water bladder or water bottles) at start point
  • At least 300 calories worth of energy bars / food portions at start point
